|
Foreword
The purpose of this online guide is to help state Councils on Economic Education
and university Centers for Economic Education to provide professional development
for teachers so they can effectively use the Learning, Earning and Investing curriculum
in their classrooms. But the materials here also are useful to teachers. For
example, there are seven PowerPoint presentations ready to use in your classroom.
Check it out. There's some good stuff here.
Workshop Nuts and Bolts
The WLG contains strategies for recruiting teachers for workshops, sample workshop fliers, sample workshop agendas and an evaluation form.
Sample Agendas
The WLG has a sample agenda for a half-day workshop and for a one-day workshop. Better yet, everything you need to implement these agendas is right on this site. Just point and click and the right PowerPoint show or lesson to be demonstrated will be ready for downloading. This is user-friendly technology.
Potent PowerPoints
There are seven PowerPoint presentations ready to download and use. They
are:

Features of LEI
LEI Web Site

Lesson 7, What Are Mutual Funds?
Lesson 12, Building Wealth for the Long Term
Lesson 15, Why Don't People Save?
Sample Lessons
There are PDF files of the lessons demonstrated in the half-day and one-day workshops. These are duplicates of the lessons in the books. The lessons are:

Use the LEI Web Site in Your Workshop
Use other materials on the LEI Web site in your workshop. Use the interactive lessons on compound interest, Word Search, The Chessboard of Financial Life, Reading the Financial Pages and NCEE's Historical Stock Market Simulation, which illustrates investment returns over the last 22 years. Have the workshop participants check out the Web links. Do a special workshop for third- and fourth-grade teachers using the downloadable lessons that are found only on the LEI Web site.
Building Better Workshops
This Learning, Earning and Investing workshop leader's guide is our modest attempt to help you build a better workshop. Let us know your ideas for making it even better.
